I believe every 1st grade classroom should have access to an organized library. My goal is to provide my very first group of 1st graders with an enjoyable opportunity to explore reading. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and my classroom would be their opportunity to read books independently and with partners during our Daily 5. As a first year teacher, I feel that having a book shelf and organizational bins are key to setting up a successful classroom library. This bookshelf and these organizational tools would allow me to set up an easy to access and organized library that will be inviting for young readers to find their book of choice. Each bin would have a genre or topic label to allow my 1st graders to easily choose a book that they are interested in. My goal is to promote autonomy in my young readers and they progress throughout the school year by making books easy to find. Allowing students to access books in a timely manner is important to me as an educator because I want students to feel that they have ample time to choose their book and dig into reading. These tools would follow me from year to year as I transition through teaching different groups of students each year. I would love to have reliable resources in my class that would be long lasting and that students would feel comfortable using. Please help me supply my class with a library to promote the love of reading and learning in an organized and enjoyable way.
