These violins will be used immediately and with great enthusiasm by our music students to continue playing during remote and blended learning. In the past, our musicians made use of every instrument by sharing with each other and carefully maintaining each instrument to ensure that everyone got to play. At one time we had five orchestras in the school, all sharing the same instruments. Unfortunately we do not have enough instruments for every student to practice at home or at school during remote and blended instruction. Imagine if the orchestra students could still play together, even while many of them are feeling so isolated at home. My fondest memories from high school are from making music with my friends in orchestras and garage bands. My students have had a taste of that cathartic experience, but they need more! These new violins would allow the orchestra to keep playing even during remote and blended learning. Besides individual practice and self-improvement, group projects would lead to a feeling of camaraderie among the musicians again. And when we finally return to school full time, the new violins will still give us an incredible advantage - they would allow more students to borrow instruments for home practice and encourage creativity through extracurricular projects.
