I'm so excited to use the resources in my Donors Choose project to help my students gain a love of reading. Many of my Kindergarten students missed the opportunity to attend preschool because of COVID-19. Many in my class have also never had any educational opportunities yet. Some don't even know how to hold a book correctly. I have been fortunate to attend the LETRS Science of Reading professional development this year and plan on implementing these skills in my classroom I plan on using the color printer to make activities to print out activities. The Science of Reading starts with simple concepts such as looking into a mirror as we learn our letter sounds, which I have included in project. I can print out pictures of our mouths as we make each sound for reference on our sound wall. We "tap, map, graph" the phonemes in words. I plan on color printing reusable mats for practice and using the laminator so these can last for years. I will print out decodable texts on my color printer we can use in class and send home. These are recommended as they are filled with sounds and words they already know. I have included organizing materials in my project to separate materials for each level my students are at. I can send home packets for them to practice with their families and store games and activities I have printed and laminated to support them in the class. I have also included fun manipulative's such as a magnetic wands, magnifying glasses and flashlights to make looking for letters, word families and CVC and sight words exciting.
