  • Full Tummies and Fueled Brains

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

Our students were so thrilled to find these healthy, brain building snacks in our classroom. As families are facing financial struggles and weighing the consequences of what groceries to buy/not to buy...it was refreshing to have amazingly healthy treats to help "boost our brains" as we continue throughout the school days.

The big boxes grabbed everyone's attention, and the "oooohs" and "aaaahhhs" only helped jumpstart the students into re-considering the choices they then had for phenomenal snacks. No doubt they will think deeply about what treats to choose in the future. They all are appreciative for this unique Donors Choose gift!”

  • Sir Isaac Newton and Us

    Funded Oct 1, 2021

My students are incredibly amazed at the learning opportunities you have helped provide for them. These hands on, minds on manipulatives that deepen their scientific thinking are not only great resources, they are THRILLING! The kiddos work in small teams to problem solve, design, re-design, analyze, and control their learning as they explore the many possibilities of each task card. One student even called out today, "Did you get that on video?" The answer: "Of course I did!"

We all appreciate your generosity in contributing to the STEM learning of these young students.”

  • Listening While Learning Literature

    Funded May 5, 2021

These are amazing days as we strive to take our students down the educational paths set before them. I am thrilled that my students are engaged in designing their own learning opportunities with this Donors Choose project. They are assuming ownership of our Listening While Learning center as the audio versions of classic children's books come to life. The radio theater/drama presentations are absolutely enthralling and hook the students' attention "from the get go".

Thank you for what you have contributed to make literature come alive for these precious children. Although several of them do have access to technology, my goal is for them to see how technology is not merely entertaining. I need them to value this resource as a tool by which they can grow and develop in their critical thinking skills.

Please know that we all appreciate your donation more than you'll ever know.”

  • Transforming Teaching: Lego Mindstorms

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Wow. What an amazing time students have had thinking critically as they pondered the process of creating a robotic structure using Legos. We've been limited in the number of students who could actually interact with the Mindstorms - but only because of C-19. Our school allowed students to attend classes virtually for the first half of the year; however, I did have a limited number of kiddos who actually could come into the classroom during the second half of the year. We've been advised it's "all hands on deck" in August (in person only), and I'm looking forward to maximizing the Mindstorms to their fullest extent at that time.

Students were drawn to the learning center area where the Mindstorms were housed. They were incredibly curious and super excited to get started with their new educational resources. I did, uh hum, have to tell them, "We will FIRST discuss the steps in this super sensational STEM center, then it's all yours!!" Mercy me. They were itching to get busy with it immediately. I'm honored to be the avenue by which your donation will impact student learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Latham

This LEGO project will make a difference in my students' learning as they participate in STEM activities that incorporate concepts across the curriculum while developing in critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills. As students actively engage in LEGO Mindstorm experiences, learning outcomes will be evident as they: 1.understand & benefit hands-on/student friendly technology and their lives 2.understand & benefit from immersion in a problem solving environment 3.develop an understanding of many types of common skills necessary to creating, programming, and operating a self-built robotic device Most of my students do not have even basic LEGO sets in their homes, so the introduction of simple LEGO robotics and programming will literally amaze and transform them. They can learn to code robots for simple tasks and explore areas of science (simple machines) while they hone their skills for futuristic STEM opportunities.
