Soaring Into Learning
Funded Nov 8, 2023Your donation helped me promote creative and critical thinking challenges with my students! The Teachers Pay Teachers resources have laid the ground work for these successful activities in my classroom. For example, students have used brainstorming techniques to generate unique, original ideas. What can you turn the picture into? Students finished it with creative new ideas. They have also applied problem solving skills and recognized their own individual ability as well as within a group. Can you create a tool to collect as many candy canes as you can in 30 seconds? Can you arrange the strips in the grid to cover 2024? Students came up with new ideas and collaborated with classmates to develop and execute them with clear communication and perseverance.
Because of these activities, I have watched students' growth by "thinking outside the box" and generating unusual solutions to problems and by being active team members and leaders within a group.
Also, all students, 1st- 5th grades, have loved our new seating options in class. They enjoy having the opportunity for alternative seating. I love their excitement in response to our new chairs that we were able to purchase because of this project! This is definitely a motivator in our classroom.”

Funded Dec 2, 2020You have given me the resources I needed to create fun, hands-on learning experiences for my students! With social distancing guidelines in place, I have had to find ways to work around obstacles this school year. 1st & 2nd grade students love that they each have their very own Lego kits! We've had building challenges using the step-by-step guide books as well as "free building" challenges where students can get as creative as possible.
Since I also have many virtual students this year, I used the Teacher Pay Teachers gift card to purchase digital logic puzzles for my 3rd- 5th grade students to complete during our weekly Google Meets.
Donors Choose has also given me endless materials that we have used regularly to complete various STEM challenges, like liquid glue and masking tape. Students used the faux mini trees and rocks to create dioramas for their endangered animals research projects. Other students completed a CSI unit of study. During their research, they conducted an impression evidence lab where they used Styrofoam plates to make their own bite marks. Then, they tested and compared various types of candies to determine which material held the best bite mark impressions. My 1st grade students learned all there is to know about space! Then, they were able to create 3D models of their planets using Styrofoam balls and cardstock we received from our project.
These experiences helped students bring their creative visions to life and supported us with hands-on problem solving challenges. Thank you so very much!”
