SEL in the Bathroom
Funded May 5, 2021Thank you for your generosity. Teachers have been promoting social emotional support for all students. This project is jump starting this initiative for this school year. We are on our way to make sure that our school building is serving as a positive environment for all the students. When the students use the bathroom to reflect, think or to have privacy, they are reminded with positive messages. The goal is to make sure that if a student is upset or needs a moment to clam down, the messages will help the students to feel positive and self-worth. When mentioning this project to students last year, they were a little excited and were happy to know that places such as the bathrooms are also important, not just regular classroom. They are excited to see the different bathrooms and the positive messages. Thank you again for everything you have donated and your consideration for our students.”

Funded May 20, 2021Thank you so much for your support in this project. The students were able to begin this project in the month of May. Since this school year was very difficult, having these tools to help students take charge of their mindset had a huge positive impact for the students. We learned together about growth mind set and phrases we can use to help our thinking. The students were asked to design a t-shirt that embodies their own growth mindset to continue to try hard and not give up. This project gave many students a chance to work together in different grade bands digitally and in person. They practiced their communication skills and were mentors to each other. The students were able to produce a t-shirt that promoted their own message of confidence and self efficacy. You are all my heroes for making this project come true!”

Funded Feb 2, 2021Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in making this project come to life. Through your contributions, my students were better able to understand the abstract concepts in Algebra with the use of math manipulatives and concrete representations. When students use math manipulatives to create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate their mathematical ideas, they begin to develop a more positive math disposition and take ownership of their learning.
I have already put these materials to great use. Students who are in-person or learning remotely have been so excited to receive their personalized learning packages . My in-person students were surprise that they were able to get their own cut-outs to understand the concepts of slopes and operations with polynomials. For my 7th and 8th grade remote classes, I was able to deliver the tools needed for them to understand adding, subtracting and factoring polynomials, which is the foundation of Algebra 1.
These materials will continued to be used as we continue to phase back into in-person learning as well! Again thank you for your support and help!”

Support Remote Learning in Mathematics Through Technology
Funded Nov 23, 2020The use of technology has a huge impact on how student learn today! During this crisis we are more reliant on these tools to keep students engaged and informed.
The document camera allows the students to see problems being work out in real time. Math work and solutions are explained in real time step by step with color inks. Not only can the students see all of the steps, this tool scans and upload the work to the students' Google Classroom. This amazing tool gives the students the opportunity to pay attention to what is being presented and not worry about capturing notes simultaneously as they listen. This removes the stress of copying incorrect notes since they know they will get a copy of what is being presented afterward.
Using the tablet allows students' inquiry to be addressed in real time. There is no need to come back to answer the questions students are asking. Now, lessons that are being presented on PowerPoints can be marked up to address information that students are contributing. "Let's look at that tomorrow." is in the past.
When working in small groups, I have noticed that students are more encouraged to ask questions during the lesson because they know that the questions will be explained through the document camera. Any unexpected questions are addressed during the mini group lesson as well.
Thank you so much for your generous gift. This school year has been made easier for our students to learn math because of you!”

Ms. Chow
