I am requesting hands-on language instant learning centers to make learning to read meaningful and fun! Early reading includes the direct teaching of the written alphabet, sound-symbol relationships, and concepts of print. My project teaches reading using hands-on activities because children learn best through active participation during learning experiences. For example, students will build letter recognition with the Letter Activity Center by using fun foam letters and activity mats to explore upper- and lowercase letters! Students will develop an understanding of rhyming sounds with the Rhyming Sounds Activity Center by using linking cubes and illustrated activity mats to explore rhyming sounds! Students will develop an awareness of sentences with the Simple Sentence Learning Center by using illustrated activity mats and tons of word tiles to explore sentences. These kinds of experiences make learning to read interactive, meaningful and fun while motivating my students to work harder to meet higher expectations. Being hands-on is especially important in my classroom because it allows my students to engage in kinesthetic learning while discussing, investigating, creating, and discovering with other students.
