When it comes to reading and having a desire to read, students need CHOICE. It's so important to have new, engaging titles that inspire students to dive in and read the whole book! Reading improves vocabulary, gives students empathy for others, and broadens their world view. Providing different titles that students haven't read and are equally engaging can be challenging as a teacher. Resources and funds for new books aren't always available, but they are so needed for this generation. Students need to be reading make them smarter, but also offer an escape when they have to stay home.
