Dig In To a Good Book!
Funded Oct 22, 2020These texts were all from diverse set of authors where my students were given the opportunity to read about a broad amount of different cultures where they were able to read about Russia during the Cold War and read about authors who have similar experiences to them as well. This all wouldn't have been possible without your generous donation.
Reading in my classroom looks a little different this year. Majority of this school year my school has been fully remote. I connected with my principal and students and found a time/day that worked with everyone's schedule to distribute books to students. Students then do their independent reading at home and conference with me every two weeks about their book. They also have a virtual journal where I get to learn about their book and authors for these amazing books they have been reading.
One of my students, Uriel, was the most excited when receiving the book Stalingrad. He has a strong attraction to Russia and wars and this book was exactly the one he had been requesting. During our bi-monthly conferences you could literally hear the excitement when explaining what happened in the book and how the soldiers suffered while trying to live through the war. He was very excited to be able to read this book. This is just one story, but every one of my students were not expecting this and being that they choose which books to read and then receiving them and knowing they can also keep them after they read them has brought so much joy to our classroom. We sincerely appreciate your generous donation to my students and classroom.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Mendoza
