Many of the students that I work with face challenges related to trauma, emotion management, social skills, and sensory regulation. Therefore, I would like to provide a safe place, in which the students can grow socially and emotionally. I believe if students are able to get support socially and emotionally they will improve academically as well. My vision is to teach self-regulation strategies that the students can utilize in school and at home. My goal is to teach them effective self-management strategies in a space where they feel safe. That is why I would like to provide the students with a sensory room. My hope is that this space will contain many resources to assist my students in self-regulation. Some of the items I would like to purchase are: flexible seating, heavy work activities, manipulatives/fidgets, a mini trampoline for movement, and sensory stations. Finally, I would like to get some social emotional picture books in order to further help the students learn how to manage their emotions. These items will make an everlasting impact on our learners at Spitalny.
