I am a Special Education teacher, in a District 75, New York City public school. My classroom consists of 6 second grade students who are classified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I have created this project in hopes to receive materials that will help me to create personalized lessons that will enrich my students' learning. My students learn best when they can engage with hands-on activities that have been created with their abilities and learning needs in mind. Due to COVID regulations, students are no longer able to share or rotate materials. Therefore, it is essential for each student to receive personal materials to work with. The materials requested will help to make learning bright and personal for them. Utilizing these materials, I will be able to create differentiated activities, centers, projects & decorate my classroom to create a fun & engaging environment. The laminating sheets will be used to make the materials durable for re-use and easy to sanitize. The colored paper will help to color-code student materials and make them look fun & exciting. The velcro will be utilized to create adapted books, visual schedules, games & more. The magnets, bulletin board paper and borders will help to decorate the classroom to create a bright & positive learning environment. In addition, I would like to create materials that students can utilize at home. With the new blended learning model, my students are only in school 2-3 days a week. Therefore, it is important for them to have access to learning materials at home as well. Unfortunately, this year there have been budget cuts and the money allotted to teachers to spend on their classroom was removed completely. My students and I appreciate your support, more than you know!
