Bookshelves and Books Galore!
Funded Jul 30, 2023Thank you SOOOO much again for donating and funding this project. Because of you, I have been able to get more books in the hands of eager and reluctant readers. Before my class, students have said that they haven't read a book of their own since elementary school and even then, there were very strict rules on what students were allowed to read.
In our classroom, students have free choice over the books they would like to read. This project specifically helped me get new and engaging books that reach the diverse population that I teach. Students love to see themselves in books as well as learn about different cultures.
Every day, students silently read for 10 minutes with individual timers. Each Monday, students set page goals for the week based on the number of pages they can read of their books. It's amazing to watch the growth that has happened already in 9 short weeks. Most students reach their page goals each week and many even surpass the expectation. So far, we have read 298 books at the 9 weeks mark. That wouldn't have been possible without your help. Thank you!!!”

Books for Student Choice!
Funded Oct 12, 2020I can't even begin to thank you enough for the impact and difference you have made on my students. To see the excitement when our new books arrived on their faces was worth every penny. Books were checked out in stacks to take home over Christmas break and some students had to use bags to carry all of their items home. Not only did they take the books home, but they read these powerful books that have the ability to change lives. More and more students are checking these books out daily.
With your donation, we were able to provide books from many different genres that students were interested in such as mystery, horror, and nonfiction. Students are excited to see themselves in books that they may have never had the opportunity to discover before now.
Words can't express my gratitude, but I just want to say thank you. Thank you for exposing kids to new books as well as helping them learn in new ways. There are so many studies out there that show reading has the ability to not only increase comprehension, but vocabulary and other skills as well. Because of your generosity, students are able to select books that they are excited about and actually want to read. I've had so many students tell me that this is the year that they have actually read a chapter book by themselves and enjoyed it. Even with this deadly virus/pandemic, students are learning because of you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cook
