  • Graphic Novels for Great Students

    Funded May 17, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I was so excited to introduce the new graphic novels to my students. They kind of looked at me in wonderment, probably thinking, "Those look like comic books, and she is saying it's okay to read those for silent reading?" They are so amazing for struggling or reluctant readers; they are easy to read and are so beautifully illustrated.

I have one student in particular, Calvin, who is enjoying reading the graphic novel version of "The Art of War". We have had conversations about how such an ancient text is being used for its strategies, in business today.

You are amazing! My students and I are truly thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bargsley

  • Hear it! Shred it!

    Funded May 2, 2021

I was so delighted to receive my shredder and earphones! The shredder is important because there are a lot of private documents that come through my classroom--progress reports, report cards, and special education paperwork. At various times throughout the school year, I need to discard them. However, I feel uncomfortable throwing away those documents in my classroom garbage can, where anyone could access them. The shredder solves that problem.

The earphones are perfect when students need to watch a video or hear a tutorial in class at different times. Many students have their own earphones, but some do not. Now my students have equal access to the learning.

I am continually impressed by friends, and complete strangers, who care about my students and their education. Much love to all of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bargsley

  • The Bard's Birthday Bash!

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to help me reach my goals with my Shakespeare project. Shakespeare's birthday isn't until April, so some of the items will just have to wait for the celebration. ; )

The most exciting part for me was receiving the Teachers Pay Teachers $100 gift card! I was able to purchase so many resources to use for every Shakespeare unit, project, birthday party I ever have. And I am helping other teachers too, by paying them for their spectacular ideas!

You're my heroes for caring about my students as I do!”

  • You Get a Journal! You Get a Journal!

    Funded Aug 2, 2021

It was so exciting to open the boxes of composition books in front of my students! One less school supply for them to buy. We will begin writing in them this week (and at least once a week), and I can't wait for them to be able to take them home at the end of their senior year. You helped give a gift that they may hold onto forever.

After last year, they need a place to express themselves and write about their feelings, concerns, thoughts and dreams. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bargsley

  • Reading about Race!

    Funded Nov 26, 2020

What a thrill it was to receive the shipments of our classroom's new books! At the beginning of the year, my students chose books to read with the theme of race and diversity. I was so inspired hearing them talk about these books and reading their thoughts about these topics. I knew that next year when we do this again, but with all students face-to-face, I would like to have several of those books on hand for sharing.

In a regular school year, I have students read silently for ten minutes at the beginning of class at least twice a week. I plan to give book talks about the titles I've read; we also have a fabulous librarian who loves to encourage students to read particular titles. This year I had my students watch virtual book talks, even one from my brother-in-law.

I was so happy I chose the theme of race and diversity. A lot of students read about cultures and diverse groups that they knew little about. One girl said the book she read, Just Mercy, "changed her life". I'm forever grateful for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bargsley

At the beginning of the school year, my students chose books about race and diversity to read during asynchronous time at home or in school. I am so inspired by the important conversations they've been having. They are excited about reading, talking about the issues and deciding what can be done to improve the situation. Since they've heard about all of these great books about race and diversity, I would love for them to be able to check them out of my classroom library. Most of students aren't able to purchase books on their own.
