Thank you very much for your donation to my project to provide the basics for my classroom--paper, pens, and pencils. Although it's nice to access technology for some things, there is no better way to assess students' knowledge than to have them write down what's in their heads, and sometimes in their hearts. I'll admit that sometimes it's tricky to decipher their handwriting, but it's worth making the effort when I know it's really a measurement of what they know--not proof of how they can use AI. You're the best!”

Thank you for helping fund my journals for my on-level English III students! I love being able to provide composition books to all my students; it's one less school supply they have to buy. This is a place they can take notes, share feelings, make to-do lists, be creative, paste memorable assignments, or write to relieve stress. Writing intimidates some. Having a safe place to write without judgment helps demystify writing. Also, if students write on a regular basis, they improve, and feel less inhibited when they write for class assignments. Bravo!”

You are the best! I love to share Flocabulary with my students, and I can't afford to purchase it yearly. Every week, they make a rap video, featuring current events from the week's news. I never kept up with the news when I was in high school, so I know that my students probably don't keep up as well. This weekly video gives information about elections (important in 2024), Supreme Court decisions, world conflicts, and scientific discoveries. Besides knowing how to write an essay, I also feel it's important that my students are aware of their worlds, outside of TikTok.”

I am always amazed by the generosity of the donors, and I try to emphasize to my students that there are complete strangers who care about them and their education. Since Covid, I have definitely noticed a heightened awareness of mental health issues in teens. Because of this, I wanted some books about anxiety, eating disorders, and depression in my classroom library so that they are accessible to students. Students are more open to discussing, and reading about mental health issues; it isn't as taboo as it once was. Thank you for giving me those resources!”

Thank you very much for your donations; these snacks are continuing to feed hungry kids. We are taking standardized tests this week, and I was able to give each student a snack to either eat as breakfast, or save for a snack during testing. It's very hard to do your best while testing when you are distracted by hunger. The students are very grateful to have this source of comfort, especially in circumstances where there is food uncertainty. Donorschoose.org has been a blessing to me. Because of donors like you, I can give things to my students that I wouldn't be able to afford to do otherwise.”

Thank you so much for your donation. Flocabulary is an online resource that provides rap videos about content area and a weekly video summing up current events. It also provides worksheets and quizzes and other activities that pair with their videos. Most high school students aren't very aware of stories in the news, and these videos get them talking about the world around them.
I am constantly amazed by the generosity of givers like you. I let my students know that complete strangers care about their education. You're a blessing!”

I teach in a school district where money is an issue for some families. As a parent, I know how expensive school supply shopping can be. That's why it makes me so happy to be able to gift my students with their own composition books/journals at the beginning of the year. I hope it makes them feel like a lucky part of a group. We all have the same-looking journals to write in, and they're brand new! Thanks to you.

Thank you for the donations to my letter writing project. My friend teaches adults in a school for students with special needs. She wanted her students to have interactions with typical high school students. In fact, her students attended our pep rally on Friday! We are using these materials to write penpal letters to her students. Last year we all celebrated the end of the school year together by playing a game of kickball. In the past we have gotten together to pack meals for the homeless, go Christmas caroling and make and hang bird feeders.
It's been so nice during this allergy season in Texas to be able to replenesh the tissues I have in my classroom when a box runs out. My grocery list thanks you. I know my students are more content in a classroom when they have their creature comforts.
It's also wonderful to have a big supply of disinfecting wipes for my desks. We are definitely in flu and Covid season, and I try to wipe down the desks every day. (It also takes off most of the grafitti!)
I am always so grateful when one of my projects is funded. It gives me new faith!”
At the beginning of the school year, my students chose books about race and diversity to read during asynchronous time at home or in school. I am so inspired by the important conversations they've been having. They are excited about reading, talking about the issues and deciding what can be done to improve the situation.
Since they've heard about all of these great books about race and diversity, I would love for them to be able to check them out of my classroom library. Most of students aren't able to purchase books on their own.
