Assessing and supporting students with special needs does not stop in the face of a global pandemic. Now, more than ever, when school personnel cannot conduct face-to-face assessments and hold in-person meetings due to COVID 19 school closures, access to good technology is critical, not only for students but also for the educational personnel supporting them. Many different people depend on access and clarity to the information I provide. The students I assess must be able to clearly see the assessment materials presented and clearly hear my instructions. During feedback of results, their parent/guardians and the teachers who need to implement the recommendations, would benefit from being able to view the data graphically and visually, especially since the information is technical and sometimes difficult to follow. Furthermore, in my Zoom consultations with other school personnel, community, and outside service providers, I often have to flip between screens to show relevant data and provide the necessary information. Doing all this on my small, work laptop, has proven to be challenging and stressful to all involved. Since most of my work is now from home, I would welcome support in the form of a bigger screen and a stable desktop. Working with better technology will go a long way to helping me better serve these vulnerable scholars and their families who have been entrusted to my care.
