Our 6th graders are going to read "Esperanza Rising" this year and we want to make sure each student has a text to take home as well as a class set. The goal of this unit is to teach students about immigration and why people move. We will also explore the history and treatment of migrant workers. Ultimately, this unit is about empathy. Students will cite evidence from the text as the complete empathy maps and try to understand the experiences and hardships of the main characters. In addition, they will learn the skills of narrative, annotation, and citing textual evidence. Thank you in advance for considering a donation to this project.
