I am asking for lap desks for my students to help them be comfortable during distance learning. I am also asking for Surfers for those students who do not have a chair to sit in and a table to work on. In school, students have their own desk or table that they know is their spot to learn. Students often bring in stickers for their name tag or their favorite crayons to use in school. We are seeing with the digital divide that it not only applies to access to technology but also access to a proper learning environment. I was inspired to get lap desks for my students when I saw many of them not have a proper place to put their laptops and learn. Many of my students are learning while at their babysitters house. This means they are on the floor in a quiet bedroom, that is not their own, or they are on a noisy couch with younger children. Many of my students are also logging on while sitting on a bed because their family is living in one room and don't have access to the living room to learn. Other students are logging in from their RVs because that is where their family is living at the moment. My students are deserving of a proper learning space. They are working so hard to overcome daily challenges and they still come to school with a great attitude. I want them to have a learning space to call their own just like I would give them here at school.
