MacBook Pro: Engaging Math Lessons During Virtual Learning

Thank you so much for the generous donation that made it possible for me to fund my MacBook Pro project. During this difficult year due to the pandemic, a lot of my students are struggling to learn from home. That is why I wanted to do my best to create engaging mathematical lessons for my students, and this was not possible without a functional laptop that I am familiar with it.
This Macbook Pro made it possible for me to create and implement lesson plans and activities with the interactive presentation tool Nearpod. Most of my lessons came from this presentation tool. Nearpod allowed students to actively participate during the lessons and show their work when doing problems. While teaching, I was able to monitor my students' progress and was able to pinpoint what topics students might have had difficulties with.
The MacBook Pro made the preparation of these lessons smooth and convenient, which made it more sustainable for me to keep creating and planning them. As a result, I believe my students were able to learn productively even being away from the physical classroom. Thank you again for the funding that made this all possible!”

As my students are participating in remote learning, it is essential for them to have the opportunity to interact with other classmates and to be provided with engaging math lessons. This is important since many of my students have stated that it is difficult to focus when learning at home. As a teacher in a virtual setting, one of my goals is to not just provide students with information on various mathematical concepts and techniques but to also provide them with rich mathematical problems that will help develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. With these, I hope to facilitate effective discussions and student collaboration. In order for me to put this goal in action, the MacBook Pro will be useful for me in creating and implementing lesson plans that will allow my students to engage in deep mathematical thinking, even with remote learning. Teaching three Algebra I and two Geometry classes this year, I plan on creating lessons through Nearpod, where students will be able to share their ideas and show their work and thinking. By doing this, I will be able to facilitate deep mathematical discussions even in a virtual setting. This will also help with student engagement during a time that is challenging for a lot of students.
