  • Wonder Weaving

    Funded Jan 22, 2024

"Best art project ever!!!" That's what I heard over and over again throughout our weaving unit. All three buildings that I teach at were so excited to have our brand new looms to weave on!!

It is so important for students to experience new art media. Most have never done any weaving before. The eye hand coordination is such a valuable lesson with weaving. Perseverance was on display throughout the whole unit. Some struggled with weaving but they stuck with it:).

I cannot thank everyone enough for your generosity. Without it my students would never have been able to discover a brand new art form, at least new to them:)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Travis

  • Basic Art Supplies

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you so much for contributing to our art program for Benzie County Schools. The materials were desperately needed. I am only allotted $100 per art classroom at the three different buildings where I teach. That is not even enough to replace the construction paper I used during the previous year. Prices have gone up so drastically. The permanent markers have come in very handy. We use them many times throughout the year for many different projects. I also ordered some metallic markers for special occasions like our woven hearts. We used them to put Valentine's love messages on them:) These are just a couple of projects we did with the materials that you helped purchased:)”

  • Paint on Canvas Keepsake

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you once again for your generous donations. I hope to make a beautiful keepsake painting that the students will have for a long time. My other hope is to introduce them to beginning painting skills. Of course we will have a ton of fun in the process:). Merry Christmas”

  • LEGO Creations

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

My students are loving the legos you helped purchase. We have had so much fun creating with them! The 5th graders loved making balloon-powered cars. We had races in the gym and the grand prize was awarded to the car that went the farthest. Kindergartners built robots one day. They were very interesting. All of my classes enjoy lego party days. We earn points in the art room and whenever we reach 30 points we celebrate. Many classes request lego parties. Next, we are going to review letters with the kindergartners and 1st graders. They are going to make various letters with the legos. The possibilities are endless. I have just begun to explore different challenges for the various grades. I look forward to having many years of creative fun. Thank you:)”

  • Painting Poppies on Canvas

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations for our Painting Poppies project! The students really enjoyed painting on canvases. When I showed them a picture of the poppies we were going to paint, they were very anxious at first. We watched the video and then they relaxed. It was so nice to have quality canvases to paint on. My $100 art budget does not afford many expensive materials. We could never have done such a nice project without your help. I am hoping the paintings become keepsakes for a long time. I know for certain 3 moms (who just happen to work at the school) were super excited to see their student's paintings.”

  • Weaving With Style With Wooden Looms

    Funded Oct 28, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations. The students thoroughly enjoyed the looms purchased for our art room. It was especially nice to use good quality wooden looms. The students were very excited to see the huge package when it arrived.

I love to give my students hands-on experiences, other than just paper and drawing. Many students who have a hard time drawing or painting excel at weaving!!

The next steps for my students include painting on canvas, 3-D lettering, printmaking, lego challenge, one class even painted the ceiling tiles for our classroom!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Travis

Most of my students come from low income homes with very little art enrichment experiences. Having said that, this makes them all the more excited to try new art ideas. Many may never get the chance to weave. Weaving is one of the best beloved art projects by most of my students. Unfortunately, our cardboard looms are falling apart and they aren't always the easiest to navigate for beginning weavers. Good quality wooden looms are a little more expensive but they will last forever:) Won't you please help me give these students a fun enriching experience in art that may spark a life-long interest.
