Handy Headphones
Funded Mar 27, 2024Thank you for providing headphones for our art studio. The headphones allow students to work on their devices without interrupting others in the classroom. These headphones allow students to access different video tutorials and content at the same time--for example, one student can be learning how to draw Sonic the hedge hog, while another student is learning how to weave on a loom. Every tool and material available for the students in the Falkener Art Studio has been purchased through generous donors from Donors Choose. Thank you for allowing our students to succeed in the elementary art studio.”

Funded Dec 15, 2023Thank you for giving our students the opportunity to create! Each year I try to complete a model magic project with our fourth grade students. It has quickly become the students' favorite project of the year. We have used the model magic to complete various projects, but the most beloved is the dragon eye project. This project ties in with the 4th-grade CKLA unit on the Middle Ages. This year the students learned about how the animators of "How to Train Your Dragon" combined different animals to create their dragon characters. The students were challenged to create a dragon based on two different animals. They drew their dragons and included different characteristics from their animals such as fur for a cat-inspired dragon or fins for a fish-inspired dragon. After completing a drawing of their dragons, we created the dragon eyes using the model magic funded by this DonorsChoose project. The students LOVED designing their dragon eyes and creating a 3D art piece they could keep forever. Thank you again for making this possible.”

Super Supplies
Funded Oct 17, 2023Thank you so much for giving our young artists the opportunity to create. They were so thankful to receive the sheet protectors so they could complete an annual haunted house project. They have also enjoyed the additional drawing paper! The drawing center is one of our favorite centers so paper gets used up quickly!! The souffle cups have been helpful for the painting center. Being able to store paint in the cups makes the paint last longer and makes it easier to distribute. The construction paper has been used at our collage center, but it has also been used to create paper weavings.
Thank you again for all of your support. Our art studio serves around 610 students and could not function without help from Donors Choose.”

Funded Mar 8, 2023Thank you so much for your continual generosity towards our students and our art studio. There is not a day in the art studio that goes by that we do not use something that was provided through funding from Donors Choose. I am so thankful for the glaze sets provided through this project. We will continue to use them to glaze things such as pinch pots, slab projects such as tic tac toe boards/ slab owls, and much more. Thank you for empowering our students and giving them the opportunity to try new things in the art studio.”

Focus Pocus
Funded May 9, 2023The school year is off to a great start! Students are getting into the swing of things and creating some magnificent artwork. One of the best aspects of the art studio is that it is a place where students can shine, especially those who might not get as much praise in the traditional academic setting. Your donation has enabled students easily overwhelmed by noise to succeed in the art studio. The noise-canceling headphones block out the other students' conversations and allow the artists to focus on their work.
For example, I have one student who used to have frequent meltdowns because she wanted her classmates to work silently. In the art studio, we have a lot of collaboration occurring so it is rarely silent. The noise-canceling headphones allow this student to successfully create in our studio.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022Our student artists LOVE the new carpet this project funded. At the beginning of each class, we meet on the carpet before starting our artwork for the day. What is so nice about the carpet is that it has colorful dots that mark each spot for a child to sit on. This makes transitioning to the art room easier because every artist knows where to go. Sometimes I organize the students on the colored dot that corresponds with their table group which has been helpful as well! The students are so thankful that they no longer have to sit directly on the floor. Thank you for all that you do to support our art studio and our artists.”

Funded Oct 26, 2022Thank you again for all of these super supplies! Let me tell you about some of the projects in our art studio that the students are working on with these supplies! 5th graders have been using the permanent markers to create lovely Zentangle sculptures inspired by the artist Charles McGee. My wonderful EC students have been using the liquid tempera to paint their paper mache hot air balloons. 2nd and 3rd graders are using the oil pastels to create Basquiat inspired pieces to help celebrate Black History Month. The 4th grade just completed a project with watercolor, using the wet on wet technique to create beautiful skies. 1st grade and the kindergarteners have explored painting with the puck tempera. Our art studio could not exist with out these materials and your donations. Thank you for making art possible.”

Funded Feb 10, 2022Thank you for providing these amazing 3D pens for our students. These pens have allowed students to make connections between art and technology. It has been a priviledge to be able to provide hands on experience with a tool that students have heard of before, but had never seen or used.
These pens have been an engaging tool for students to work with. They are also able to learn about the element of art form through "drawing" with the 3D pens. Students have made sculptures and forms of different objects using the 3D pens. There definitely is a learning curve with trying to figure out how to best manipulate the tool and execute a design, but students have been eager to engage and persist.
Thank you again for your support. Falkener Art Studio could not exist without YOU.”

Funded Dec 21, 2021Thank you so much for replenishing our art supplies. As the year progressed our supplies were dwindling! Your donations made it possible to replace some of the items we used up. Your donations also provided us with some fun, exciting new tools such as the paint sticks and the gel monoprint plate.
The students have loved using the larger scissors and my left handed students have appreciated the left handed scissors. The Crayola Colors of the World Markers have been a big hit at our drawing center. We are currently in the process of recycling dried up markers to make "ink" for the refillable binger daubers.
Thank you for your support. Our art studio could not be successful with out your help.”

Funded Oct 21, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity in donating these books to our art studio. Prior to adding these titles to our collection we only really had one drawing instruction book. These titles have not only allowed students to expand their knowledge of different artists and gain inspiration for their own work, but have also enabled them to expand their drawing skills.
Many of my younger students will flip through the books and look at the pictures. It is wonderful to see how excited they get looking at the images in the books. There are also times where I will begin class by reading one of these books aloud to the younger students.
Students as early as first grade are able to look at the some of the drawing books and begin to copy the step by step instructions. There are a few titles that are very basic steps. These books have been helpful at all ages because it allows for students who are not confident drawers to begin to practice.
The older students have really enjoyed the anime drawing books. I have a few students who have really been practicing their drawing skills by utilizing the anime drawing books. Class after class they are drawn to these books. They are really engaged with these books because they are drawing characters that are important to them.”
