By allowing all of my students the access to a variety of focusing and seating supports, I can help my students experience success and foster a positive association with school. My classroom is a melting pot of ages, sizes, & abilities. Some of my students may not have an IEP, but have potentially experienced development-altering trauma. The Community Playthings 12" ChildShape chairs and Bouncy Band 10.75" wiggle seats are a prefect fit for my classroom. These sensory and seating supports help my students to develop the correct strength and seating position while allowing their bodies to successfully focus on learning. These chairs pull up& fix neatly under all of the tables we use. Some of the students that I serve have not yet developed the core strength for sitting in a focused & learning position. All of their energy goes into staying in the chair, which takes away from their attending. For some of my smaller students, the tables come to the middle of their chests when they sit in our regular chairs. These chairs allow them to sit higher so their arms at at the table level. By the end of the school year, some of my taller students are more comfortable in a taller chair. Many of the children I serve are still learning to define and/or stay in their own personal space. The higher sides & arm rests of these chairs help to better define their space in a concrete way. Other of my students have specific sensory needs or struggle with focusing while sitting still. Using a wiggle cushion that fits into all of our classroom seating options can help them to successfully attend and learn. It can be tricky to find wiggle cushions the right size, and these ones fit the bill perfectly!
