  • Bridging the Educational Gap Due to COVID-19

    Funded May 4, 2021

I still cannot believe how lucky I am to have people support my students and me without knowing us. Your generosity has helped me find new resources to supplement my lessons in order to reach the needs of all my special education students.

Your donation has helped me find remedial activities to help students who haven't been in school in approximately two years. Special education students can meet the same standards and goals as their regular education counterparts with extra supports. Now I am able to diversify my lessons with fun activities because of you! I was and am able to purchase both online and paper activities to keep students on task and motivated.

My students especially enjoy pixel art activities where they must solve a problem and if their answer is correct, a piece of a picture is filled in. When all answers are correct, they see the entire picture. They also enjoy puzzles and mazes based on various math topics. Thank you once again, you have made such a positive impact on my life.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Vicari

  • Updated Computer for a New Academic Year!

    Funded Jul 15, 2021

I still cannot believe how blessed I was to have donors like you support my project. I am extremely grateful for your generosity. Your kindness has made such a difference in my teaching this year.

Having a new computer has allowed me to teach interactive lessons and play educational games with my students. This keeps my students motivated and focused on the lesson. They enjoy coming up to the board to solve problems and participating in class. My students are creating and filming their own videos to teach the class and researching and creating Google Slides and Prezis. I am able to vary my lessons and have my students engaged. This is vital when teaching special education students.

My new computer has also enabled me to research and plan various assignments, tasks and projects. I can now easily collaborate with other teachers and parents both in and out of school. Zoom and Microsoft TEAMS are easily used which keeps communication open. My new laptop has truly enhanced my pedagogy. I hope one day to be able to help someone else the way you helped me.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Vicari

  • New Year - New Engaging Classroom - Post Pandemic

    Funded Apr 13, 2021

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for your donations. I was really nervous I wouldn't be able to make my students feel comfortable being back in a classroom this school year. Your generosity has enabled me to transform my classroom into a bright and engaging room where my students can be happy and proud to learn in.

Your donations enabled me to cover all my bulletin boards with new wallpaper that doesn't get faded by the sun, buy clear frames to mount student work, and buy paint to spruce up old dingy wood cabinets. My kids were so surprised when they came into my room this year and saw all the changes. It really made my classroom feel like an extension of their homes. Without donors like you, I could have never achieved this transformation.

My students are taking ownership in their new classroom. They enjoy changing their work and are proud when they see it framed on the bulletin boards. Some will even question me as to why their work isn't displayed. I have had to pick randomly in front of the class so they know it's fair. I am extremely happy to see them so engaged. You have helped make a positive impact on my students. I pray one day I am able to pay it forward and help a teacher in need the way you did.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Vicari

During this time of remote learning, students are relying on routines and teachers to bring back a little normalcy to their lives. To keep students motivated it is important to vary lessons and be able to tailor them to my students specific needs. Teaching special education in the Bronx, my 8th grade students are struggling and not attending school. By getting an Apple iPad, math will become easier for me to teach and my students to learn. I can do some amazing things for my students with an Apple iPad. I can create interactive lessons that can be shared, share videos, and share interactive websites that will keep my students motivated. I would have the ability to share my screen and write on parts of the lesson to facilitate learning styles. I will be able to model problems, take pictures of the problems, and then post them on google classroom. Most importantly, I can show math processes, not just the answers. This year has been incredibly hard on teachers and students. Teachers are depending on kind donors like yourselves to support us. NYC cut funding that used to be given to teachers for their students. This year more than ever is when we need it the most. Thank you in advance.
