  • Communication Books and Visual Supports

    Funded Sep 5, 2024

Thank you for your generosity! I am looking forward to sharing these items with my students! The visual supports will be used with students from preschool through 12th grade.

We have several non-verbal students at Bright Local Schools. These items will help support both those students and their parents.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim Carr

  • Communication Books!

    Funded Oct 8, 2020

Thank you so much for funding this project! I can’t wait to start using these with my students! The communication books will give the students a voice! The books will not only benefit the special needs students and their families, it will benefit all the children in those classrooms.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim Carr

Many of my Speech Therapy students are children with autism who are often non-verbal, but they have so much they would love to tell us! A picture exchange system is a proven way to increase communication, decrease negative behaviors and help each student be successful in the school. Picture exchanges and visual picture schedules help students communicate with both adults and their peers. Individual communication books can be customized to be certain the special needs of each student is met. Communication is a very powerful tool that each child deserves! I have made my own communication books in the past from old notebooks, pictures and velcro. However, those homemade books fall apart easy and often do not make to through the school year. An actual communication book that is designed for the purpose of communicating with others would be both time-saving and helpful for those students that have limited ways to communicate. These books can be used a both school and at home, because using communication skills across all environments is the key to improving those skills!
