  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

Impressing a group of middle schoolers is not a common occurrence, but I can tell you that showing students our new audio/visual tech for our classroom got me a real-life, I-kid-you-not, gasp of surprise as I demonstrated to the group the quality at which we can create content now.

Our conversation evolved past the shock value of shiny new things and we talked about the generosity of our community and the different ways we ourselves can show support for organizations and programs we appreciate.

Just as gratifying as the conversation and impressed looks though, were the ideas that came churning out of several students. It's truly a fundamental (and wonderful) shift in the classroom when students take ownership for their own learning and WANT to challenge themselves. The tools we were able to purchase with help from our donors was just the gentle push we needed to ramp up our curriculum. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wunsch

I just want to once again say thank you SO MUCH for your generous donations! We were able to get the green screen up and running this week with my 8th graders and enthusiasm was at an all-time high. So many teachers from other areas of the building came down to check out what we were doing and it was such a great way to promote our InfoTech program.

Teaching students about digital layering was already something I teach each year, but now with the green screen, I can really allow students to explore and discover these techniques in a kinesthetic, hands-on way. Research, as well as common sense, supports higher retention rates of concepts when students can DO instead of just listen. The conversations we had in class after just one week of exploring the green screen were incredible. Students that had been near-silent in my class so far were asking thought-provoking questions about the limitations and capabilities of this technology and they were clearly processing how they could use it themselves.

Perhaps my favorite part of this generous donation though was the chance to springboard into a conversation with students about what it means to be a community. We spent time talking about how strangers from around the country were able to impact our lives in a positive way. We discussed how small acts can have big consequences and how a little bit of generosity can go a long way. Hopefully this is a lesson students will remember when they find themselves with an opportunity to do something positive for somebody else.

Just as a green screen connects two digital mediums, my students will remember the connection we have with individuals around the country that supported us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wunsch

Despite the atypical school year, my 8th graders have been enthusiastically making videos this semester for our InfoTech class. Many students have created videos far above my expectations! I'm hoping to provide them additional resources to take their projects to the next level. We've experimented with green screen technology already, but without the proper stand to hold the backdrop, we can't quite achieve the professional quality we're looking for. This will allow students to more efficiently showcase their skills and creativity! In my teaching career, I can't think of many times where students have begged me for school supplies and I figure I'd be a fool not to take their enthusiasm and run with it! Thanks!
