We are facing challenges this school year that we have never faced before. Students are remaining in the same space in cohorts all day long. Our desks are spaced 6 feet apart and each student's personal area has become a "learning island". In order to maintain social distancing, we no longer have recess, we can't play games together in PE, we eat at our desks and we only leave our classroom (individually) for the occasional bathroom break. As you can imagine, we get very antsy staying in one place! On warm days we have been able to go outside and distance on the athletic fields for academics and to do some stretching but soon, snow and cold weather will make that very difficult. Our classroom looks different now too. No cozy chairs, no reading nook, no sharing of anything. I am doing my best to still make our classroom comfortable and homey. This is where you can help! By providing my students with stools, they will have flexible seating and be able to decide each day whether they want to sit in a chair, sit up on a stool or stand at their desk. Fidgets, and the baskets and hooks that will be used to house them, will help us release energy throughout the day. Chair bands and floor clings marking their "stretch" areas will help us to move our bodies in safe ways throughout the day. I currently have 6 students attending in person instruction with the rest joining us remotely. Two of my remote students will return in two weeks and I am hoping that the others will transition back to the classroom at some point as well. Please consider donating to help these great kids who have lost so much this year but continue to smile!
