Sew Brownsville
Funded Nov 23, 2020It was a great honor opening this project for our students at Brownsville Middle School. Some students may have seen mothers and/or grandmothers sew in the past. Through this program, they were able to experience and see the joy of making a craft for themselves.
Currently, my students and I are actively using the supplies and resources each week to cut simple sewing projects with the fabric and sew them on the machine to produce a garment or a crafty small item. Last month, they created their own face masks which is especially needed in our current time. This month, they are sewing pocket pouches with a drawstring top. My next step, is to ask for donations to assist with acquiring fabrics and sewing essentials.
When they saw the serger machine for the first time, they were so surprised and in awe that they would be able to learn something new. They kept saying how they love watching "Project Runway". It was a pleasure to see both boys and girls benefitting from learning an industrial trade that will stay with them forever.”
With gratitude,
