  • The Crayon Initiative

    Funded Mar 1, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting the Crayon Initiative! Young kids want to help make a positive change in their community, but it is often hard for them to find a way to do so. They are often told they are too young, which can be frustrating and discouraging.

The Crayon Initiative is a great way to let elementary aged kids know they can make a difference in their community. There is no age minimum to collect crayons, and in fact, our students are the perfect age to collect crayons!

We want to help make the world a better place one crayon at a time and appreciate you helping us do so!”

  • Filling Our LIbrary Shelves

    Funded Feb 10, 2025

It's a great day to be in the library! Thanks to you, we were able to add so many wonderful titles to the library, and the kids are thrilled to check them out. We barely got the Taylor Swift book out of the box before a student asked to check it out, and then before the end of the day , there was a hold on it for next week. It is so wonderful that we are able to fill our shelves with books that students that our want to read. The only way to grow readers is to have books in the library that readers want to read! Our students want to read these books, and for that we are grateful!

We truly appreciate you making this happen!”

  • Guy's Stuff

    Funded Feb 7, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting Guy's Stuff! This is such an important event for our boys and their families. By having an evening like this, we hope to remind our students that there are people who are supportive and are willing and happy to answer their questions.

Having a bag filled with products like deodorant, mouthwash, a comb, Chapstick, and face wash help make the conversation about hygiene easier. As our presenter talks about a topic, he has a visual to reference, and our boys are so excited to go home with these items in their hands.

Thank you for making this night even more memorable for our students!”

    With gratitude,

  • Inchy the Book Vending Machine

    Funded Feb 6, 2025

Inchy, our book vending machine, is so happy right now! Through this project, we were able to get so many great titles to fill Inchy. Our students are chatting like crazy over books, and this is exactly what we want! For our students to love books, be excited about books, and talk about books with their peers.

At the moment, I would say our 6th graders are the most excited about the Alan Gratz books as we have not had them in quite a while and they are very popular. Our 2nd graders are excited about the DATA Set as they are reading it in class and the books for Inchy come later in the series. The Step Into Reading Series books are popular with all our young readers, and Investigators is popular across all grades.

    Thanks for supporting Inchy!”

    With gratitude,

  • Recess Time!

    Funded Feb 6, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting recess at our school! As you can see, our students were thrilled to have new basketballs to play with. It is fun to watch how excited the students are when new equipment comes out. The students are very creative and begin to create games that we haven't even thought about.

Having enough equipment for everyone is a game changer. It allows more students to be active, and less frustration due to lack of equipment. We appreciate your support and are looking forward to playing through the end of the year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. West-Simon

  • Inchy the Book Vending Machine Needs to be Fed!

    Funded Jan 1, 2024

Our students continue to be so excited about our book vending machine, Inchy! Opportunities to get books from Inchy keep them incredibly motivated about reading and we couldn't ask for more than that. Inchy is a great way to get them to discuss books with each other, and share their questions and opinions about reading materials with their peers. When students come to iLab or Library, they can often be found gathered around Inchy talking about the books that have been added.

During the season surrounding Lunar New Year, having the chance to add seasonally themed titles to Inchy was perfect! They were so happy to see books from their favorite series, like Dragon Girls and Wings of Fire, plus special books like Tomorrow is New Years Day! Thank you for inspiring our students to read! We appreciate your generosity so much.”

  • Books for Our Students' Hearts and Minds!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

The last couple of years have had such a profound impact on all of us, and at times, the world has seemed downright topsy-turvy. No matter how topsy-turvy the world gets, we can always find comfort in a good book. Inchy provides this comfort to many of our students. They look forward to earing an Inchy token, and are so excited by the selection of books that they find. Through Inchy, our students can find books that make them laugh, cry, allow them explore new worlds, learn more about a specific topic. Thank you for helping us stock Inchy with a book for everyone.”

  • Finding Our Favorite Characters on the Written Page

    Funded Apr 24, 2022

I'm so excited to share with you how your donation has enriched my students' reading experiences! Seeing new books containing their favorite cinematic characters had them so excited to read, I thought it couldn't get any better... but that was just the beginning.

As the books began circulating, the enthusiasm among the students only grew, and I was thrilled to witness the kind of sharing and collaboration one hopes the right books will spark. It's now become common to see the kids reading to rapt groups of their classmates, and even acting out scenes specific to the books! Familiarity with the characters on which these new books are based was initially the big draw, but their relationships to the books has taken on a depth that surpasses that initial spark... the students are getting to see how stories can expand and synthesize, and it has helped their imaginations grow as well.

Thank you again SO much for your thoughtful contributions, and for helping my students continue to love reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. West-Simon

  • High-Interest Reward Books for Inchy, Our Book Vending Machine!

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to our reading rewards project, "High-Interest Reward Books for Inchy, Our Book Vending Machine!" Our students are so enjoying access to these books, especially our students who are transitioning from picture books to early chapter books, and benefit from the visual interest they provide.

It has been such a joy to watch the kids interact so excitedly about the prospect of earning a chance to get one of the books your donation has provided, and even more fun to hear them as they share those new books with friends once they have gotten them. This kind of excitement about books is exactly what we had in mind when we started the "Inchy Project", and it has been gratifying to watch it all come to life!

Thank you again for your caring generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. West-Simon

This past year, our school was lucky enough to become the owners of a very special resource: a book vending machine called Inchy. Inchy has been such an exciting addition to our campus, as students have had the opportunity to earn tokens to redeem for a book from Inchy for following our school's 3 Rs: being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. The wonderful thing about Inchy is that the children have been so motivated to earn tokens, and their behavior has reflected this, but it also means we need to restock Inchy with new titles frequently! We'd love to be able to stock Inchy with a great new selection of high-interest books, requested by our students, to help keep them enthusiastic about reading AND positive behavior! I love hearing the meaningful conversations the kids are having about their book choices. Books like the Owl Diaries, Unicorn Diaries, and other similar series are very popular with the students, and help them make the transition from picture books to chapter books. Books like these will help keep our students engaged and excited about reading!
