These materials will allow children the opportunity to learn how they are comfortable. In addition to the many flexible seating options included students will have a space in the classroom designed to be a standing desk area, there will be a variety of clipboards for students who prefer their tummies and of course traditional seating for those who chose to learn that way. Each of these selections are easy to clean, which is important! Students will make a wise selection for them and use that seat for the day! Flexible seating opens the door to a whole new level of student engagement. I personally do not enjoy sitting at my desk all day, I find myself spinning in my chair, pulling my feet into my chair, etc. We need to give students every tool possible for them to be successful. Flexible seating is one of those tools! I have seen a desire in my students to find alternative seating, some students who do not focus while in their chairs are laying down or sitting on the floor while I teach, others are standing at a tall shelf to complete assignments, many are sitting on their knees to wobble in their seat, the need and desire for flexible seating is definitely present. Another perk of flexible seating is that I would be able to remove several of the 6 person tables in my room. This would allow for the ability to socially distance in the small classroom environments. With the increased social distancing and ease of disinfecting this will give an added peace of mind to parents and teachers.
