  • When Butterflies Arrive the Heart Sings!!

    Funded Jan 22, 2022

This was a phenomenal project!! The students created butterflies, caterpillars, butterfly eggs, and chrysalis. Kindergarten created clothespin butterflies, 1st grade created Paper Mache butterfly eggs with giant leaves, 2nd grade constructed Paper Mache caterpillars with giant leaves, 3rd grade made collage butterflies, 4th created made monarch butterflies, 5th grade made chrysalis, and 6th grade created butterfly murals. All grades helped to create a habitat for the butterfly life-cycle. Then the whole school came together and produced a butterfly habitat in the hallways of the school!

The students loved this project, first they loved creating a part of the butterfly life-cycle. 1st, 2nd and 5th graders loved experiencing art using Paper Mache. Getting their hands dirty and creating 3-D representations of eggs, caterpillars and chrysalis. The 4th grade loved making semi transparent Monarch butterflies which hung on a Monarch butterfly tree! Kindergarten and 3rd grade enjoyed the process of creating butterflies. 3rd grade painted patterns on paper and then collaged butterflies with their with that paper. Kindergarten used paint and paper for the wings and a painted and glittered clothes pin for the body.

The 6th grade butterfly murals were hung throughout the school on Art night for students and family members as a photo booth, allowing patrons to stand in front of the wings and have their picture taken, in the photograph it look as if they had wings.

The students loved working on the individual pieces of this project, and were in awe of the butterfly habitat that it created! It truly helped the students come together as a community. Thank you so much for your support.”

  • Quality Art Supplies for Low Income Students

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

My students are so excited to use the supplies that were sent because of your generous donations! When the students saw all of the great supplies that they are able to use on their artwork their eyes lit up, they were especially excited about the metallic sharpies. I have found that students love metallic art supplies the most.

Because I teach Kindergarten through sixth grades I always have seven different projects going on at once. One project the students are currently working on in third grade is painting a lightning storm. This project uses watercolor, oil pastel, and at the end metallic markers or metallic watercolor for the lightning. I can't tell you how excited they are about this project... it would not have been possible without your help!

I have sent photos of some of the projects we have worked on this year using a variety of different supplies. The giraffes and portraits used colored pencils. The one-point perspective city and trees used pencil, colored pencils, and watercolors depending on what the students wanted their art to look like. The aspen trees used watercolor, paint sticks, and markers. The pumpkins used paper and markers, and the printmaking used printmaking supplies such as Styrofoam plates and printing ink.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Suzanne

  • Watercolor Magic

    Funded Jan 25, 2021

I want to sincerely thank you for helping my students by funding watercolor sets. This enabled them to create beautiful watercolor paintings while at home learning remotely. It was a challenging year and having the ability to create art helped many students use their imagination and creativity. Many of my students did not have anything to add color to their artworks and were drawing with pencil on lined paper. Once they received the watercolors and some good paper they created many beautiful images!

When the students found out that they would each receive a set of watercolors they were very excited! Seeing their faces light up when they used them for the first time was amazing, and watching them experiment with painting was a joy.

The first watercolor lesson all student participated in was practicing different watercolor techniques. Once we had finished this we went forward with watercolor projects. 5th and 6th grade students learned about and painted a Wilson's Phalarope bird and entered it into a contest. My second 2nd grade learned about the properties of soil and then painted the soil layers. 4th grade students learned about and painted waves. My 3rd graders created Amate paintings of a jaguar, and 1st grade made watercolor collage flowers. The students were thrilled to have such interesting projects.

I want to thank you again for your generous support! You have really made a difference in the lives of many low income students who might not have gotten the opportunity to paint with watercolors otherwise.”

  • Help! New Art Room Needs Supplies!!

    Funded Oct 6, 2020

Your donations have made an enormous difference for my students! In fact, the impact will continue into next year! A well stocked art room needs many different kinds of art supplies which are very expensive. Without your help I would not have been able to purchase so many items that students really love to use.

Some of my students just finished up a watercolor techniques landscape. They learned different techniques in each section of the landscape. We are currently painting birds called the Wilson's Phalarope using these techniques. Once we finish painting the birds I will allow the students to try the liquid metallic watercolor to add finishing touches. I would like for you to know that when the students get to use metallic paints or markers their eyes light up and they are very excited!

Another group is just about to start fish wind socks using oil pastels and paint cakes. They are very excited about it.

I have found students love more complex projects using many different kinds of art supplies. Your help has made this type of project available to them. Thank you so much for your assistance in providing these wonderful students a fully stocked art room!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Suzanne

My elementary is a Title I school with a diverse population. This school has not had visual arts. That means that there are no art supplies at all. I want to provide a great art experience for the students and in order to do so I need art supplies for them. Children love art, and having the right kind of supplies helps them create. It is essential that the students have enough art supplies to create and finish high quality art pieces. If the supplies are lacking the student art suffers. Please help me set up my art room for student success!
