Today A Reader, Tomorrow A Leader!
Funded Jun 8, 2023The students in kindergarten loved their new decodable books so much. They are just starting to learn the alphabet, letter formation and letter sounds. These books are jam packed with opportunities to find the letters they are learning. In addition, as the difficulty of these books advance, the students can practice sounding out two-letter and three-letter words by applying the letter sounds they are learning.
Our reading curriculum teaches phonics in a systematic sequence and these books are a perfect way to provide extra practice. Also, since we have several copies of each book, the teachers are using these books in small groups to support students who need many repetitions of practice. They are also used to give students with more advanced skills enrichment to read at higher levels with more sophisticated sound patterns.
The kids love these special books so much! Several have asked to borrow them to take home for a few days. One student even carries one with him everywhere he goes because it's about his favorite topic and he felt so successful reading. He is so motivated and excited to be a budding reader!”

Funded Feb 25, 2021Thank you so much for the Tools4Reading Kit! The students have been using the articulation picture cards during our phonics lessons to build words using their emerging sound knowledge. They've become experts at spelling consonant-vowel-consonant words independently with their Tools4Reading articulation folders! This has been such a crucial tool during these mask wearing times.
The students refer to the articulation tools daily during all components of our reading and writing lessons. They have been very helpful in supporting students spelling skills too. Students made big improvements in their spelling skills when they were able to see the articulation cards on our classroom sound wall!
The students are also using the Tools4forReading Kit to build their knowledge of high frequency words. Many students have learned to spell 20-50 words by doing orthographic mapping with our wonderful Tools4Reading Kit. Thank you so much.”

Letter Palooza: Magnetic Letters for Budding Readers in Kindergarten!
Funded Dec 21, 2020Thank you so much for the magnetic letter sets! The students have been using them during our phonics lessons to build words using their emerging sound knowledge. They've become experts at spelling consonant-vowel-consonant words independently with their magnetic letters!
They were so thrilled when they saw all of the new magnetic letters sets and they would no longer have to wait to take turns on different days to use some. Now each student can build words with their own letter set!
The students are also using the magnetic letters to build their knowledge of high frequency words. Many students have learned to spell 20-50 words using their new magnetic letters. Thank you so much.”

Funded Dec 20, 2020The decodable texts that we purchased with your generous donation helped me to make a library of special texts for my students to practice their phonics skills. I have an excellent phonics curriculum that the children really enjoy learning. However, there was one really big gap with the program. The lessons were missing books and texts that the kids could actually apply the skills they were learning to. These new texts align perfectly with the phonics skills they need to practice and master.
The new texts have helped my students to get more excited about reading because they can now read sentences and paragraphs. It's given them a sense of confidence and helped them to identify themselves as a grown-up reader! They love reading and rereading these decodable texts.
Many parents have also mentioned how much they love the new decodable texts and how they have seen tremendous growth in their child's reading confidence and ability since we started using them. Thank you so much for your support and generosity!”

Funded Dec 8, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donations! I used and continue to use the alphabet books in school as read alouds and after teaching phonics lessons. The books helped the students to learn their letter names and letter sounds. The students also took the alphabet books home to practice reading everyday and learn letter names and letter sounds with their family.
In our classroom, we do read aloud daily. We also spend time learning phonics and phonemic awareness everyday. It was really fun for the kids to look and listen for the new letter names and letter sounds they were learning in their reading lessons. The students love to read the books during independent reading and center time too!
The students went from an average of knowing 7 letters and 1 sound to knowing 20 letters and 15 letter sounds! The books really helped them to practice learning the letter names and sounds in a fun and exciting way!”
