I teach a special education kindergarten class. I implement a Read to Succeed program for my young students. We do read-to-self lessons each day and I promote reading at home with this program. I send home a monthly coloring log for each student to track how many books they read. This program supports reading and family engagement by getting a family member involved to sit and read together with the student. At the end of the month, students are rewarded at the Read to Succeed store for turning in their reading logs. The majority of my student's families are low-income and are in need of clothes, food, and basic necessities. I would like to give each student a warm pair of pajamas, socks, and a reading book for their home this winter to support my Read to Succeed program. What better way to enjoy reading than in a comfy pair of PJs and socks during the cold winter months. I even collaborate with our local librarian to come read to my students once a month as you will see in the uploaded picture. I also added a few other needed items: stickers to be used to reward the readings logs, a chair and stand for the computer to support my shoulder injury, and charging cords for the classroom technology that is needed.
