I am requesting a variety of materials that will help my students grow and fill their achievement gap in reading, math, and language. In reading, the items will help my students with RF.2.3 Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words; RI.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. In math, these items will help my students with 2.OA.1 use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve 1 and 2 step words problems; 2.NBT.9 explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations. These items will also help with writing W.2.2 write informative/explanatory text in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section; W.2.3 write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events including details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. It will also help with science 2-PS1-1 plan and conduct an investigation to describe and clarify different kinds of materials by their observable properties. I am a newer teacher and these items will not only help and improve my students' education this year, but will also help my future students for years to come. I know that my students will appreciate these items and will be excited to use them to better themselves and feel a sense of accomplishment when they finally understand the content given to them.
