Musician's in the Making: Recorders Needed!
Funded Oct 11, 2020We cannot thank you enough for funding our project. At the beginning of the school year, many of my students expressed how excited they were to learn a new instrument. With COVID, school closures, new CDC regulations and guidelines, I wasn't sure if I could resume recorder instruction as I did in the past. Previously, we shared instruments, the instruments stayed in school, and I was responsible for keeping instruments disinfected. I knew that I could not continue instruction this way. My students needed instruments of their own. Thanks to your generosity, we have begun our journey of playing our very first instrument.
When I informed the students that not only were they going to learn recorder, they were going to get to keep it, they were thrilled. I organized a recorder pick up day where students received their instrument and a music packet. The families and students were so grateful to be receiving something special to make learning from home a little more exciting. There were some families I was able to see (from a distance) that I haven't seen since the initial building closures last March. It warmed my heart to see students and families and be able to bring a little joy/ something to look forward to.
After distribution, we started zoom classes for recorder and a program called "Recorder Karate". For each song my students learn and are able to play without mistakes, they earn a belt! Most students have earned their white belt by playing the recorder classic "Hot Cross Buns". Seeing their progress over the past few months is just amazing. I look forward to continuing this program and seeing student progress.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Carrie
