Wampum Belt Coding!
Funded Feb 15, 2024We had the best time thanks to you! It was a wonderful opportunity for students to create a wampum bead code. They learned patterning, coding, and most of all, patience!
Students created codes based on Native American traditions and culture. Not only was it a great bonding experience, but watching students sneakily hide their codes while making their wampum was an interactive time filled with competition and laughs.
Students took their codes home to see if family and friends could then also figure them out. It's been a few weeks since we completed our wampum, and I still hear students talking about it. I see them attached to backpacks and worn as necklaces and bracelets.
Thank you again for your time and generosity in supporting our family here at school!”

Mummies Among Us!
Funded Nov 29, 2022We had the BEST time! I have attached pictures of our Canopic Jar making! Because part of the Egyptian mummification process included the removal of the lungs, liver, stomach, and intestines, they had to be protected. They were protected in canopic jars by one of the Four Sons of Horus: Hapy (lungs), Imsety (liver), Duamutef (stomach), and Qebehsenuef (intestines). Students were given the option of which son to create before waiting for the clay to dry and paint it. Of course, we learned along the way how it was best to keep our clay in large, thick chunks, so it didn't become dry and brittle. Thankfully, we had enough clay to fix those that did crack! It was messy and engaging. Both the students and I loved it!”

Funded Aug 9, 2022THANK YOU so much for your generosity and the gift of books! It's difficult to grab the attention of every reader and to have a multitude of genres and themes available. One of the best compliments a teacher can get, in my opinion, is seeing/hearing about a child who was not interested in reading in general until I introduced a particular book!
Students have the opportunity to choose their own books when they read independently in my class each day. This also includes freely taking books back and forth from class to class or to their home. Although I lose many of our classroom books this way, I am overjoyed when asked to take "that book" with them!
When we read a whole class novel, such as the book Chains that you have provided for us, we delve into the personal narrative of a young girl's experience with slavery. This book, and many others, produce amazing discussions and insights about our past history, the changes that are occurring today, and the forthcoming changes that are still needed to be made to create a better world for all of us.
YOU have made this possible for us!”

Funded May 3, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness! We are having such a great time learning about The Lost Colony of Roanoke! We have just begun discussing the Early Exploration of America.
It is so much for my 5th graders (and for me) to investigate the possibilities! The books and materials provided for us will give us an up-close look at what it was like to be an early colonist at that time.
The students are engaged and excited about this part of our social studies curriculum, and it is because of donors like you... THANK YOU!”

Funded Jan 22, 2022THANK YOU so much for your kindness and generosity to help foster my students' learning. This is the first Donor's Choose Project that I have done, and I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of participants willing to donate to our project, some of which the students and I know, and some of whom we've never met!
It fills my heart with happiness knowing that the future of our students is in the hands of all of us! As a community, we came together to fund this project. Students were overjoyed when the boxes began to arrive in the classroom! We knew we had been given the gift of learning!
We had a great time molding our mummies, creating our sarcophagi, and learning about Egyptian culture through our Percy Jackson novel. Having this opportunity has engaged our students... They look forward to coming to class with a HUGE THANKS to you!”
