My students are severely below grade level with their reading skills and are at a risk for not reaching the benchmark "Read by Grade 3". I have put a plan in place for each individual student and will make every effort to help them succeed. Student took their NWEA MAPS GROWTH test last month and students collectively scored very low in phonics and vocabulary.
My students are motivated and want to do the best they can; but we are lacking specific tools to get them to their reading goal. Sight word flashcards, games and centers based around phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary and language building techniques will help students stay engaged and focused while increasing their reading skills.
These materials will help keep our classroom safe and COVID conscious by allowing students to have more small groups creating smaller individual groups. Instead of having 4 groups of 7 we would be able to create 7 groups of 4 keeping table partners together and keeping the contact tracing to a minimum. These materials will also help teacher to communicate effectively behind a mask using an amplifier and students can use the headphones to participate with their reading virtual games without unnecessary distractions.
All the materials requested within this project will match against virtually every single reading and language standard. I will however, being placing special focus on phonics, spelling and vocabulary. The main focus using materials will be reading foundation skills standards; phonics and word recognition; to include but not limited to:
L2.F -Use spelling patterns and generalizations (e.g., word families, position-based spellings, syllable patterns, ending rules, meaningful word parts) in writing words.
RF.3.3c - Use spelling patterns and generalizations (e.g., word families, position-based spellings, syllable patterns, ending rules, meaningful word parts) in writing words
RF.3.3d - Read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
