My students come from economically challenged homes that often have a food deficiency. Before Covid-19, they were used to eating at school and getting extra snacks to take home so that they would have food to eat later. For many of our students, the meals they get at school are the only times they eat because they don't have food at home. Snacks were not only given as a way to combat this but also as a way to motivate students to become more engaged in their learning. Students love to participate on a full stomach; therefore the snacks we provide help students perform well academically. These snacks and juice will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them to have food to power their minds and bodies for learning. Students will be able to pick up a snack bag from the school and they can feel comfortable and safe doing so because the mask and hand sanitizer will be given to them also. Additionally, they will feel secure in knowing they are walking into a space with clean air provided by the air purifier. We want the students to feel safe enough to get the snacks that they need so that the outcome is higher student engagement.
