There are two projects in this list of materials! Terrariums: All of the gardening products on the list are going to be used for an SEL/Science project this year. Students will be able to build their own closed ecosystem, choosing their own succulent and organism (snail, slug, frog, etc.) to live in their terrarium. The terrarium will sit at the corner of the their desk, where we will incorporate science standards by interacting with the ecosystem. For social/emotional learning, the students have expressed that they think it will help regulate their emotions if they have something to care for and observe for days where they are feeling unstable emotionally. The great thing about this project is that it is something my remote kids will be able to construct and take care of in their own home. Cooking: All of the cooking products on the list are going to be used for life skill lessons of learning how to cook basic recipes. The Visa Gift Card will be used to buy the students fresh ingredients for the days when we decide to do a cooking lesson. The majority of my students could be considered "at-risk" because of their home lives. Many of them spend a lot of time home alone or taking care of younger family members. Because of this, it leaves my students having to take on more domestic chores around their house, such as cooking. I have learned that my students are foodies! They have expressed a great interest in learning how to cook and/or adding more recipes to their own personal recipe book.
