  • Adaptive Literacy for Diverse Learners

    Funded Feb 17, 2025

My students were so excited as we unpacked all of our new supplies! My team immediately began creating adapted literacy materials.

The adapted books and hands on learning activities have been so well received by my class. The students enjoy using the sturdy, individualized books with the tactile and visual supports built in, during our literacy instruction and recognize their unique color coded sets. They are excited to use them and are more engaged.

Thank you for making this possible! We appreciate your generosity.”

  • Symbols for Succcess

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my little learners.

My students benefit greatly from picture supports to assist their communication, language and literacy skills. Having access to the Boardmaker program allows us to create the materials my students need to succeed. We have been able to adapt our favorite books, create schedules, develop communication boards and make visual supports for curriculum materials. All of this helps my class learn and succeed.

We appreciate your support and can't wait to explore even more learning tools using our new program.”

  • Adapted Books to Build Literacy Access

    Funded Jan 11, 2023

My students are so motivated by the new board books we received, thanks to your generosity. I have been busy adding adapted picture symbols to each book. The kids are doing so well using these symbols to identify vocabulary and respond to questions about each story. These new adapted books have really helped give everyone in the class better access to literature.

Thank you for helping to give my students the materials they need to successfully explore literature. We truly appreciate your support.”

  • Multi-Sensory Tools for Language and Literacy

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

My students enjoy their new multi-sensory literacy materials so much! My autistic kindergarteners love to explore the textures in our new books and are now very motivated to independently select books and read together. We are already seeing our little learners identifying new vocabulary and more letters. The new book bins gave us the ability to set up mobile literacy stations so that our students can always access the books they want on their own.

Thank you for supporting our class and for helping us acquire the materials my students need to succeed this year!”

  • Portfolio Project

    Funded Aug 6, 2022

Thank you for helping us purchase materials that will allow my class to succeed this year. It is exciting to celebrate the progress of my kindergarten students. My little learners with Autism demonstrate growth throughout the year in a variety of ways. The new portfolios that we were able to create will allow us to organize their work documenting their achievements.

The students are able to easily recognize their own portfolios since each one is a different color. Our students are able to independently pick out their binders from the bin and proudly get them when there is finished work to be filed.

I appreciate your support of my class!”

  • Getting Eye-to-Eye With My Little Guys

    Funded Apr 13, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my students.

My little learners were absolutely thrilled to receive their new cushions to sit on while working on the rug. Our new adjustable rolling chairs allow staff to sit eye to eye with each student during instruction increasing learner success. The bright colors are an added bonus. They have made our classroom more engaging. The kids all take turns sitting on the new ball chair. This flexible seating option has helped to improve motivation and focus.

    We appreciate your generosity!”

My students are so excited to have tablets to develop our Literacy Listening Center. They enjoy selecting their individual tablets, and working individually or with their peers to listen to stories, watch videos of their favorite books, and play literacy games.

The tablets are so motivating. They allow the students to successfully explore new literature and build their language skills.

We can't wait to discover new things to do with these new tools in our Literacy Center. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our class!”

  • Access to Adapted Materials

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

We were so excited to receive the supplies we need to create adapted materials. The students love the new adapted books we have been making. We've been able to create laminated communication supports so our class has better access to language and communication throughout the day. We even made adapted materials to help with our daily check-in and mindfulness routine. The colored binders and cardstock allow us to individualize the adapted materials for each student and helps them independently identify their own items. We are looking forward to creating more adapted materials. We greatly appreciate everyone's generosity.”

  • Language and Literature for My Young Learners with Autism

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity. My young learners with autism now have an exciting collection of literature as well as the props props they need to bring these stories to life. We set up our new book cart to display these book kits along with our leveled-readers. This gives our students increased independence as they choose the books they would like to read.

The large print and pictures in the big books capture the students' attention. Having the props to hold during shared reading helps to give our learners sensory input, allowing them to better focus on the story. This has allowed us to create a more effective learning environment.

Our class loves to gather together to explore their new literature. The students take turns selecting the stories, and everyone gets a chance to identify the pictures and words they know. The kids have so much fun investigating the props, which include puppets, and pictures. It is so rewarding to see them make the connections to the stories using these materials.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Communication through Music for Young Students with Autism

    Funded Sep 24, 2020

Our students with autism were so excited to receive their new instruments!!! They are brightly colored, sturdy, age appropriate, easy to clean, and most important - fun to use! We were able to give each student their own individual selection of instruments for daily classroom use. We also sent each student home with a set of instruments to be used during remote instruction. In such uncertain times, it is wonderful to be able to provide our students with familiar items that they get to see both and the classroom and when they are learning at home. Consistency is so important for our young learners.

So far our class has had the opportunity to use their instruments while we've worked on important language and communication skills such as requesting, choice making, turn taking, and following directions. Our students look forward to music during their morning and afternoon group each day. The instruments are so motivating. Everybody loves the animal shaped bells, which perfectly fit their little hands! We can't wait to try some more of the activities from the "Every Day Songs and Activity Box". Last week we all had fun using our egg shakers as we practiced the concepts "stop" and "go"!

Thank you for your generosity! It was truly humbling to receive so many wonderful things that meet our students needs so well. Opening that box from Lakeshore and seeing the abundance of supplies inside was overwhelming. These instruments will help our students increase their communication skills throughout the year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bergen

My project will provide my students with a range of age-appropriate, colorful, sturdy instruments, and educational materials that can be used to expand their social language, learning, and communication skills. In addition, this project includes materials such as puppets and props to provide visual supports for familiar songs. This project will provide my classroom with the tools needed for my students to participate in engaging music activities. During these activities, my students will have the opportunity to learn to use language to make more requests, express preferences, increase their peer to peer interactions, and sing songs, all while maintaining a safe social distance. Each student will have their own set of instruments and materials that can be easily sanitized.
