  • For the Love of Literacy!

    Funded Mar 15, 2022

This project has been such an asset in student's daily classroom experience. They are building CVC words with the games from Lakeshore. They are drawn to the new book buddies, sitting with them on the rug with a book or at their desks. So many of the students are loving the new Pete the Cat books and the other hard covers we received from this project. Whether it's just flipping through the pictures or following along while an adult reads to them, they are engaging with literacy constantly. The addition of the reading buddies also really helped them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sam

  • Communication Through Sensory Activities

    Funded Oct 19, 2020

With the donations to the project this year, students were able to explore sensory play through a variety of activities. They were so excited to receive the new materials and had such a blast when they finally got to explore them! They've been working all year on using the materials appropriately, especially in times when we have sensory group.

With all of the wonderful materials from this project, students have learned about the letters of the alphabet, colors and numbers. They have enjoyed practicing tracing, fishing for numbers and using sand as reinforcement. Overall they will continue to use these materials so they are integrated into their programs and work throughout the day!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sam

Since COVID, students will be in a hybrid learning structure. This means they will be in person at school every other week, and the rest of instruction will be done remotely from their homes. My goal is to be able to provide students with whatever they need to succeed, not just in my classroom but at home as well. Since all my students have autism, they often have sensory needs and experiences. These materials could help with everything from pre writing, number recognition to communication preference on items and participating in fine motor groups more fully. The best part is, students will be engaged during their usage of these materials which will only enhance what they take away from our lessons. There is no doubt in my mind that these materials will make a positive impact on my student's learning experience.
