My students have many strengths, but they ALL struggle to communicate in some way. My goal as a speech-language pathologist is to help them improve their speech and language skills so they can better communicate with others and succeed in school. Some of my neediest students are nonverbal and communicate using gestures or picture symbols. An iPad allows me to access picture symbol displays with greater flexibility. In this way, students can both view activities AND participate in them at the same time. Using an iPad, I can project images of physical materials, instead of awkwardly holding them up to a camera. An iPad would greatly increase my ability to meet the needs of nonverbal students. With an iPad I can better engage those who struggle to communicate and help them build their speech and language skills.
