To address the growing need of STEM programs to increase interest in Engineering fields outside of the classroom, J. Middle School has created a pilot engineering program. Hands-on application of computers, tools, materials, and processes are used throughout this course to define and solve problems. Students will develop working prototypes to solve real life problems. The craft knives, cutting mats, wire strippers, and shears will be directly used in the hands on creation of projects. Students will complete the Engineering Design Process and create working prototypes of their designs. Throughout the year, students are presented with design challenges that require them to apply problem based learning strategies to overcome. The requested tools will be specifically used in the physical creation of these projects. Students will create Co2 gliders, "Power Pole" planes and hovercrafts, and structural engineering projects throughout the course. By having these tools available, students can bring their designs to life and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
