Our project primarily focuses on SEL activities, fostering a love for reading while remaining healthy in the midst of a pandemic. I’m looping with my students this year and last year I noticed a high interest in our morning meetings and English lessons. Though resilient, I’ve seen my students in a state of despair and at many times, unable to center themselves. Our morning meetings focus directly on identifying the emotion they feel, discussing why they feel that emotion and finding solutions to increase their emotional stability.
To foster a love for reading and writing, students will use the novel for their unit project. Given a rubric including set due dates, students will work collaboratively in groups, create a hands on activity, research main topics and individually, construct an essay. Using these different approaches allows for all students to show mastery of the comprehension of a text.
As the Delta Variant, COVID numbers increase, it is important to keep all students safe with the use of masks (listed in the project).
We are so grateful for your generosity!
