Before virtual learning, the class participated in a daily regime to make sure each student is lovingly touched for hands-on learning activities. You will hear laughter and sounds of happiness. Some will use gestures, make sounds, or even act out their excitement of communicating. You will see eye gazing, smiles, head movement, legs and arms moving to show positive engagement in activities. Whiteboard interactive computer activities give it all, including, sounds, music, motivation to keep trying, and cheers when you accomplish task-“Good Job!”
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the social distancing guidelines, our students are learning virtually from home. Students have been provided monthly instructional resource kits to use at home for virtual learning. I have a limited supply of whiteboard interactive software that is outdated and is not compatible with laptops. The new technology software will intensify a broader interest to explore, according to students' IEP goals and objectives.
While learning from home our parents and caretakers are excited to motivate children with hands-on learning. All requested resources will be used for student at-home learning and classroom learning (returning to school). It’s important to understand that just because a child is non-verbal doesn’t mean they can’t express themselves. Non-verbal children have a unique way of communicating. It is important to take the time to learn and make sense of these communicative cues. It is my calling as an educator to continue preparing my students for lifelong learning experiences to reach their individual academic, physical, social, and emotional potential. I am overjoyed how the opportunities of the new requested resources will benefit my children!
