Math can be intimidating, and for my young social emotional learners, some of whom are also English Language Learners, it can be downright daunting when new concepts are introduced. These games and manipulatives will not only make learning the initial concepts less intimidating and more fun, but the hands on aspect will help to make the concepts more concrete. These games you are giving to my students will not only be used for learning times, but also for earned incentive time as a reward they choose for making good choices throughout the day.
Learning through play is so important, and when my students can practice what we are learning in a fun and meaningful way, they are much more likely to grasp the concepts. We use learning games to not only practice our academic skills, but also to work on their social and emotional goals through turn taking and communication. They learn patience, respect for others and property ,as well as good sportsmanship.
