Everyone has a story about a teacher that has inspired them. Not everyone knows that teachers have stories about students who have inspired them. Students that have given their teacher a reason to continue working hard, a reason to create lessons that support and challenge them, and a reason to continue caring when it would be easier to stop. This is the story about how my students are inspiring me. My third graders are resilient. They’ve started this school year in a completely different normal than they’ve ever encountered. On the first day of school, I witnessed so many tears and frustration but I also saw something amazing, resilience. I saw my students wipe their tears away and come back to their chromebooks and try again. Three weeks later and I see that they are making progress but I want to help. It is impossible for students to learn while they are frustrated. My students were given a chromebook from the school. They attend a title 1 school in a low socioeconomic area. Their families are struggling to balance a work and school homelife. My students have never manipulated technology by themselves and I can only help them through video. What my students really need is a mouse to help them use their school provided chromebooks with more ease. My student’s frustration levels could be decreased if they had a mouse attached to their chromebooks. Students will use the mouse to manipulate different web-based tools that are required in distance learning.
