  • Keeping My Students Safe: One Book Per Student

    Funded Dec 16, 2020

We have all heard “reading is essential”, however, often times the books we have available in school book rooms often fall short on that motto. Teachers often share the same tattered copies of any given text for years until the books fall apart.

I want each one of my students to have a book in their hands and to be able to annotate in their own copy, which will help them get a hands on, immersive experience while reading.

With this project, I plan on putting a copy of this classic in the hands of my students and have them engage with the text the way I do when I read. I am thrilled that I can finally share this expeience with my tenth graders!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Abramyan

Model reading is such an invaluable activity teachers often engage in while in their classrooms. I am trying to re-create model reading by giving my students a chance to engage with the text and see how I go through it, annotate it, while they have access to their own copies of the scanned text. School book rooms have a limited number of copies of the text, and given our current circumstances, it will be challenging for many of my students to get to school to pick up materials. I can scan entire books using this document reader, and I can show my student in real time how I read and annotate the text for better understanding and deeper analysis.
