  • Dissolving the Screen...Bring the Actual Classroom to Remote Learning

    Words cannot begin to describe how thankful my students and I are for your overwhelming generosity. During these turbulent times, it is comforting to have such acts of kindness to remind us how much we have to be grateful for.

    When I first saw that people had given to my project, I felt supported in this very new journey of online teaching. Teaching has always been my greatest passion, but unfortunately our efforts as teachers are not always fully recognized. This, along with the new challenge of distance teaching, left me with a feeling of uncertainty for the first time in my career. The funding of this project allowed me to feel like someone was really rooting for me and my students.

    The technology that was purchased with your help has been of great use in the Precalculus and Advanced Placement Calculus classes. It is often difficult to bring such advanced courses to life, particularly in a digital classroom; however, these devices have allowed me to prepare interactive and engaging daily lessons.

As a math teacher, one of my main objectives is to make concepts clear and relevant to the real world. In order to do this, I often use various platforms and demonstrations in the classroom. Because I will now be teaching remotely, it is important to me that I am still able to do this for my students. During these turbulent times, my goal is to keep the classroom as interactive, fun, and relevant as it is when we are teaching and learning in person. These devices will allow me to simultaneously teach my students using these various platforms while holding synchronous discussions with the entire class. For example, with some of my senior classes (students that will be heading out into the real world), I like to do a unit on mortgages and building credit. Using this technology, I will be able to show them some real life examples of how these concepts work in reality using simultaneous screens. Please help me make my at-home classroom as wonderful as possible.
