We Can Still Collaborate Face to Face
Funded Jan 3, 2021It is difficult to put into words how challenging this school year has been with teaching through a pandemic. I was tasked with completing my traditional classroom duties as well as with doing everything I could within my ability to keep the students and myself safe. The plexiglass barriers were a blessing to my students and my classroom. There were many students in my classroom whose parents wanted them to learn virtually this past school year, but due to their own personal reasons could not allow them to stay home. These students and others were excited for the barriers. The barriers were an additional layer of protection for them. Not all of my students wanted to keep the barriers on their desk, but they did out of respect for me and their classmates.
The students were very excited and happy about receiving the plexiglass barriers. Every student was able to have their own. They personalized them with stickers, markers, their names. The only requirement was that they kept the largest area free of decorations, so that they would be able to see through it. One student was very protective of his barrier. He took it everywhere he went and didn't want anyone sitting next to him without having a mask on or their barrier up.”

Funded Sep 28, 2020It is somewhat difficult to put into words how appreciative my students and I are for the new Chromebooks that you purchased for us to use in our classroom. The structure for education in school has completely been altered due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
With so many students learning virtually from home, there is limited access for students who are learning in the building to utilize laptops. The addition of the Chromebooks will allow my students access to frequently used computer programs that assist with classroom instruction, small group games, and research. Some of the frequently used programs are: iReady, MyOn, First in Math, Khan Academy, Nitro Type, and Readworks.
The students are overjoyed with having the Chromebooks in our classroom. The bold, red color of the Chromebooks adds to their appeal. They are especially excited about not having to share them with other classrooms. This was my first Donors Choose project to be funded, and I am so grateful to you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jackson
