Due to COVID-19, my students are unable to access many of the art supplies that are available to them in the classroom. Since all of my students have expressed that art is their favorite subject, I want to make sure they have a variety of supplies to choose from to explore their thoughts and feelings through art expression. With these art supplies, my students will not only be exploring their creativity but also how to use art as a means to explore their social-emotional learning. I want students to feel like they have the materials and tools they need to be able to express the emotions they are feeling while learning from home. Art can provide therapy and an outlet for creativity and expression. We will use these art supplies to make art journals to track how we are feeling each week. Students will have a self-portrait prompt that they will respond to in their journal by drawing a picture of themselves and writing about it. This allows students to be self-reflective in that moment and think critically about how certain situations are making them feel. The first prompted self-portrait they will work on will be "How do you want to see yourself?" They will draw themselves along with words of empowerment to describe who they want to be.
