I started this job a few weeks ago and was surprised by how little the music instrument inventory was. As an instrumentalist myself, I realized the school needs to build their instrument inventory. I am hoping to start by adding boomwhackers, congas/drums, and a couple slide whistles. Boomwhackers are so much fun in elementary school. Being able to play a familiar song from a tube is awesome!!! I hope to use them at least once a week when schools are back in person. Drums/congas are another great instrument to have in a music classroom. They are easily passed around (very shareable) and fairly portable (since I am pushing a cart around to each class). Percussion instruments are a great way to get students excited for music class. The last thing on my wish list (for now) is a couple slide whistles. Because as young students it is important to explore our voices and a slide whistle is a great example of showing students the difference between high pitches versus low pitches. I hope you will consider donating these items. We are a small charter school located in Woodburn OR. I feel very privileged to be able to teach music here twice a week!
